A mental illness/disorder is a psychological or behavioural pattern associated with distress or disability that occurs in an individual and is not a part of normal development or culture. The recognition and understanding of mental health conditions have changed over time and across cultures, and there are still variations in the definition, assessment, and classification of mental disorders, although standard guideline criteria are widely accepted.
If you suspect that you’re suffering from a mental illness, please seek professional help immediately. The Living With DVD series is not meant to help you make a diagnosis. Contact your doctor, a psychiatrist or psychologist, or phone SADAG for more information on support available in your area.
