More on the DVD "Living with Schizophrenia"
In "Living with Schizophrenia", young Steven Swart bravely shares his experience of living with probably the most serious mental illness, often referred to as the "cancer of the soul". Schizophrenia is a degenerative disease, intensified by the fact that people often associate it with violence and aggression. This inaccurate and stigmatising perception often prevents schizophrenia sufferers from seeking treatment.

More on schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is considered the most serious of all mental illnesses, and although it is a serious disease, treatment is available to help the person living with schizophrenia in managing and controlling the symptoms, and reach a positive outcome.
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that can be diagnosed and treated by a psychiatrist. At present, no physical diagnostic tests are available to assist with making the diagnosis, although there are tests that can rule out any physical pathology such as brain tumours, seizure disorders, or thyroid disorders that can have similar symptoms.
